Details: Sounded up some really great structure and wow.. what a dive. It felt like i’d entered a secret world, unseen by humans before. Unfortunately I had some strobe issues, so did my best with ambient light. A moody dive.

Conditions: ?

Visibilty: 8m

Water Temp: ??c

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Max Depth: 22m

Details: This is a fairly small site, but it packs a punch and is very photogenic. The large bommie has a large cave at its core, that’s home to a pair of Rock Cod. At the entrance sits a cluster of ascidians which I love to photograph. This sites definently on the dive again list.

Bottom Time: 40minutes

Max Depth: 18m

Details: Sounding around out off the back of Charlemont Reef, I came across some structure that looked promising, however it wasn’t all that interesting. The terrain was larger boulders forming a bank of reef. No gnarls, or overhangs, but some nice vegetation.

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Max Depth: 21m

Details: Off Ant Spit I sounded up a nice drop off from about 15-21m. The bommies/reef down here is a different structure to around Charlemont reef and around the bluff with a much more horizontal layering to it. Some of the walls and holes looked like the edges of Craters. A nice dive.

Visibilty: 7m

Water Temp: ??c

Bottom Time: 40minutes

Max Depth: 22m

Details: A fairly gloomy dive at Chimney Rock with John. A highlight was a big school of Trevally on descent. The weather changed from mercury-like glass condition to a chrystaline chop on the way down from Castle Rock. There were no shortage of photographic opportunities though. A seal casually demolished its catch in my company, and a Little Penguin popped up for air nearby. The Barwon Bluff looked amazing on approach as the sun glistened on the wind swept surface.

Dive Number: 449 10/03/2013 Castle Rock

Conditions: Significant Current

Visibilty: 10m

Water Temp: ??c

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Max Depth: 20m

Details: I always thought Castle Rock was far enough from the heads to not be affected by currents. I was wrong. Exercise caution if not diving on a live boat. The benefit of the current though, was that i saw a big school of Kingfish from the surface, sending the sounder nuts. They didn’t stick around for the dive though unfortunately. I do love this site… the ascidians are a big feature for me, but it has a great wall too.

Conditions: ?

Visibilty: 10m

Water Temp: ??c

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Max Depth: 15m

Details: The Ampitheatre is a shallowish site off the back of Charlemont Reef. Its relatively shallow coming up to about 8m, but them dropping off to about 15-16m. There some great bommies on the reefs edge and a little protected Ampitheatre that Port Jackson sharks hang out in. There was about 15 on this dive but unfortunately i had a small housing leak, so no photos from this dive.

Conditions: ?

Visibilty: 10m

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Details: The terrain gets a little different down near Black Rock, and so do the fish species. A big school of Silver Warehou, a species I’ve never seen before, circled me closely. The usual Port Jackson shark hung out under the ledges and on the way there, Dolphins enjoyed the ride on the bough. Great dive.

Bottom Time: 50minutes

Details: This is a site that can be done from shore when conditions are ideal, but I decided to give it a go from the boat, as the wind was howling from the north and things were getting messy out to sea. Not many photos but a there is some beautiful kelp out here, hence the name Secret Garden. I must have felt inspired if I took a selfie…cant you see the excitement on my face?!? lol
