Dive Number: 272 25/02/12 11.30, Torpedo Reef, Shortlands Bluff

Wind: ???

Tide: ???

Conditions: ???

Visibilty: 10m

Water Temp: 20c

Bottom Time: 57minutes

Max Depth: 18.1m

Details: This was a cracker of a dive site. Lush seafans and sea pens, with species i’d never seen before. The site lay about a 1km off Shortlands Bluff in an area roughly know as Torpedo reef. Harry skippered the boat, while me and chris dived. Thanks Harry! We dropped in on a cuttlefish and weaved our way through scattered bommie covered in colourful sponge life. Chris came across a large admiralty anchor..one of many apparently scattered in the area. We stopped off at Pope’s Eye afterwards and i tried some under-over shots of the gannets.

Dive Number: 271 24/02/12 18.30, Near Joanna Wreck Area

Wind: ???

Tide: ???

Conditions: ???

Visibilty: ???m

Water Temp: 22c

Bottom Time: 29minutes

Max Depth: 3.2m

Details: We went out off St Leonards and followed some wreck marks i had in the gps to the joanna wreck.
A sign warned it was a protected area and diving by permit only, so just had a dive nearby on the seagrass beds. The area is very current affected and the dive was kept short. Plenty of flathead around.

Dive Number: 270 22/02/12 15.30, Old Yarra St Pier, Geelong

Wind: ???

Tide: ???

Conditions: ???

Visibilty: 4m

Water Temp: 22c

Bottom Time: 49minutes

Max Depth: 5.4m

Details: I’d walked past the old pylons marking the start of the old yarra pier and often wondered if there was anything remaining of the pier or what old bits and pieces might be lying in the mud. So i gave it a quick dive but vis went to zero in the deeper sections. So i just stayed in the shallows where the water was clearer. A sparsely spotted ray lay in the seagrass, and i was suprised to see a kelpfish in the rock wall…a species i always associated with swell affected areas.
