Terricks and Cohuna
The night had cleared slightly by the time I had reached the Terricks. I hadn't brought the spotlight, but hoped that a Plains Wanderer might run across the road and into the headlights.
It wasn't too be..but a Wood Duck did get me very excited when it emerged from the darkness. Funny how your mind can play tricks on you, especially at night, but
but the wood duck was definently a wood duck..not a Whistling Duck or a very large Plains Wanderer. I also saw a couple of Barn Owls, and got some good looks at one that flew into a tree.
As common as they are, I always love seeing Barn Owls..gorgeous birds. I stayed the night at Terrick Terrick, and then early morning, headed back up north to Cohuna. Cohuna is a fairly reliable site
for both Little and Noisy Friarbirds...some of the ugliest species in Australia! I ended up having great views of both species at the town ovals, and was also kept amused by a Sulfur-crested Cockatoo,
as it munched on some seed pods. I was on the home stretch, but still had all of the Box-Ironbark country of Central Victoria to get through, so i didn't imagine getting home too quickly!
