I wasn't planning to visit Sandy Billabong, but as fate had it, it turned out to be one of the highlights
of my visit to Kakadu.
A very beautiful spot, it was flourishing with bird life.
The first photo opportunity was a Forest Kingfisher radiating on a branch.
Three Rainbow Beeeaters traded places on a dead branch overhanging the edge of the water.
They would fly off to catch a passing insect and be back to the branch in seconds to wait for another snack to fly past.
A Restless Flycatcher got in on the beeeaters act, and approached over the water via the lotus lillies.
Northern Fantails fluttered around the trees surrounding the edge of the billabong.
