Around Broome

Broome has a fluctuating population due to the tourist trade, but is generally still a small and remote city, yet growing. A high growth area is Cable Beach, which i made a quick visit too. A lovely golden sand beach, but it still doesn't compare to my local beaches on the Surfcoast in Victoria. :) A brief walk in the sand dunes behind cable beach produced many Red Winged Parrots which were actively feeding in some coastal vegetation. Bar Shouldered Doves and Peaceful Doves fed on the ground, and the odd raptor flew overhead. Brown Honeyeaters are common all around Broome and the surrounds. Just out of Broome we stopped to get some fruit from a local grower. Some Rufous Throated Honeyeaters hopped around the trees at the front of the property. We had to keep moving, but i was intending to come back to this spot to photograph these birds. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and i had to make do with this shot with a poorly placed stick! Continuing up the highway, a Whistling Kite fed on the roadkill. Futher along, this pale morph Brown Falcon waited for an easy lunch atop a tree. This was the first pale morph Brown Falcon i've seen (seemingly uncommon in Victoria), so it was almost like a tick for me.
